Since it came about “out of the Blue” (or perhaps “out of the oblivious”), both Melanie and I were completely terrified and alarmed at the rapid rate by which the symptoms took place. Within 48 hours the condition had arrived at its final destination of paralyzing the entire right side of her face, causing great discomfort and much anxiety. We rushed scrambling to the Doctor's office, booked an emergency energy healing session, followed up with more healing at home, and questioned (with some degree of compliance mixed with a justified feeling of unfairness) the meaning of all this just now as new beginnings have emerged in her life (but as the wonderful Louise Hay teaches, sometimes just as we make a commitment to more wealth, we lose our wallet!). Yet without intention, we have given much power to discussing the frustrating symptoms: how painful the jaw felt, the dry eye, the awkwardness of not being able to perform simple tasks such as smiling, eating, drinking, or speaking coherently.
My heart bled for her as I looked at this person that I loves holding her mouth with force just to let out a hearty laugh, or having to patch her eye with tape since it won’t simply shut on its own (how often do we pay gratitude to the simple functions of our body?). Being the empath that I am, and working as a healer and therapist, I was mindful of the yearning in my soul wishing to offer solace, comfort, and immediate relief, yet feeling helpless without much magic power.
It is well researched that certain conditions or diseases that manifest on the physical level have their metaphysical symbolic meaning as unprocessed toxic emotions such as guilt, anger, and resentment. Depression for example is also a manifestation of these underlying sentiments. In my own life journey I learned to believe that most times a given unpleasant conditions and crisis situations come as a wake up call which was in fact agreed upon by the person’s soul and his or her contract with the Divine. As difficult as it may be for us on the outside, we are asked not to interfere with the lesson they are to learn other than to offer compassionate support, healing, and comfort during their schooling process. Yet this isn't easy to do when someone we love suffers...
When Melanie and I finally parted for the night, she went back to her home and I sat down for a short meditation before bed. I was exhausted from the weekend's events and so I must admit I sort of rushed the process with slight impatience. However not long after sitting on my meditation cushion and closing my eyes, it came loud and clear: “See Only Wellness” an intuitive inner voice directed gently but firmly, “See her as we see you all... Do not focus on illness, focus on health” it offered further.
Through my closed eyes I then saw a beautiful vision, an image of Melanie as a pure transcendent light figure, smiling effortlessly, both sides of her face in perfect balance. In the image she seemed to be in an absolute state of bliss, peace, and harmony. She looked faultless, whole, and complete. I recognized the voice as a familiar guiding spirit and I suddenly understood the wisdom of the message: In essence, we have invested more energy in and gave power to what we did not want, and by so doing invited it to stay longer... Instead if we had shifted our consciousness and attention to noticing change (not necessarily health, but any sort of change), we would have opened a window for other possibilities as potential outcomes. But by seeing illness we have shut the door to health. We have momentarily missed the mark by forgetting to focus on the impeccable all-knowing God-like Divine particle within Melanie (and us all) that is at this very moment healthier and more abundant than ever.
Indeed by seeing ALL our conditions as containing the probability of wellness, we are able to move from perception to vision, from illusion to truth. We then see all of creation from a higher perspective, the perspective of knowing! This entails that indeed we see only well-being, only love, only prosperity, abundance, joy, health, and vitality in every situation! We then acquire God-like spectacles, where all that is not love, not abundant, and not well; implying that it is in fact an illusion. The Course in Miracles teaches that "You are a Miracle, capable of creating IN THE LIKENESS of your creator. Everything else in your own nightmare and does not exist... Only the creations of light are real" (miracles principle #24).
In fact, by dwelling on the symptoms themselves, by talking about how awful the situation is (and indeed it is!) we have labeled the condition and thus gave it life, making it real. The Course further reminds us that All sickness comes from separation: The state of our separation from the source within us (our higher self, soul, God, or guardian angel), the separation that exists when we think of ourselves as "higher beings" than others such as the animals, and of course the separation from one another as a community in our tendency for acquisition and competition. Our separateness is what prepares the soil for the conditions of depression, stress, dis-ease, and dis-order.
As if to illustrate, my cat, Pfizer (yes, like the Pharmaceutical company... She is my most potent anti-depressant! :), jumped on the bed just as I was digesting this gift from Spirit, eager to show her contentment with loving purr. It occurred to me then that the animals we share our lives with have a better grasp of this law of healing than we do.
They indeed see only wellness, unless their experience has been tempered by humans that is. They offer their unconditional love to us as if they are seeing only the part of us that is made up of the good and deserving. They do not seem to notice those body parts that we are not too keen on, how tall or short we are compare to how we wish to be; and they do not bother with our “to do” lists, the status of our social ranking, bank account, or emotional and physical conditions that stem from childhood events. They simply see past the outer layer of our human condition and greet us with their absolute acceptance of us as perfect equal beings. If we dare looking at the world from a puppy's point of view, we too may begin to see that all is well, people are lovable, and this world is an endless playground waiting to be discovered...
